Enrichment

Life at Wootton Academy offers lots of opportunities.

Our students benefit from great teaching by our expert subject teachers, as well as a growing range of experiences, clubs and trips which enrich their time at the school. We want all our students to leave us having learnt lots, tried new things and challenged themselves to take part.

Houses

To drive our student leadership and our competition and challenge, we have 4 Houses at Wootton Academy, each with a Head of House. These have names linked to our students’ journey through Wootton Academy, the Trust and our use of the journey metaphor through life.

  • Pathfinder
  • Explorer
  • Voyager
  • Navigator

Sport

We have an excellent reputation for our sport and we are keen for our students to get involved. Our main areas are football, netball, basketball and athletics. We also play tennis and cricket.  In the summer we have a pĂ©tanque competition which is fiercely competed!

Duke of Edinburgh

We believe that all of our students should consider following the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme. Our experienced staff team lead our students to practice and gain the Bronze and Silver Awards. This is open from Year 9 due to age restrictions, and students cover Volunteering, Physical, Skills and Expedition. We have lots of students who take part and absolutely love it!

Performing Arts

We have a long history of excellence in the performing arts. There are wide ranging opportunities to get involved whether you dance or act, sing or play an instrument or want to start a band. We also have opportunities for budding sound and lighting engineers, as well as roles in costume and set/programme design.

We have regular performances through the year and love lots of our community supporting our events.

Clubs

Lots of subjects run clubs to inspire and engage students in that area, for example, French film club. Many also run support and intervention at points through the year, in particular these are linked to GCSE courses.

We run a homework club each lunchtime so that students can access some support, or simply get their homework completed before they go home.

We also have a wide range of other clubs such as debating, Warhammer and so on. Each year clubs change as students ask for a particular club or set one up themselves.

Leadership Opportunities

We have a small group of Senior Student Leaders (from Year 10 and 11) who oversee our leadership programme, and help us to run the school and make it a lovely place to be. We then have Student Leaders in each year group. These Student Leaders are linked to the House system.

Applications for Student Leadership open in the summer term, and new students are then able to also apply at the end of their first half term in October.

Trips and Visits

In addition to our Geography field trips which are part of the GCSE course, we run a number of other events.

These include trips to the theatre, subject linked trips for example poetry, and art trips to local places. Careers events and trips to universities. Competition trips, for example our science robotics club. As well as other visits such as our annual trip to Disneyland Paris with Year 10.

Enrichment Week

Each year we have a week specifically focused on enriching our taught curriculum.

In June 2026 we had almost every Year 10 student completing a week of work experience to support them in developing employment skills and enjoying the world of work. Year 9 enjoyed a mixture of events including a hike and family picnic, a trip to London, an enterprise activity as well as some sessions that deep dive into some of our subjects.

In 2027 we aim to take our entire Year 7 out on a residential and are planning exciting events and opportunities for Year 8 and 9.
